Jamil was initially thought to be a powerful mutant discovered and trained by Achmed El-Gibar, the master thief of Cairo. Along with young Karima, Jamil was one of the last students trained by Achmed before his death. However Candra took particular interest in the abilities of the boy and sought to abduct him. Achmed was dying of old age and summoned his old student Storm for help. She failed to save Jamil from Candra but kept the other young thieves safe. Entrusting their leadership to Karima.
Jamil would turn up in a few tales. But it was eventualy revealed Candra had been fooled. The powerful mutant she sought was Karima. The girl had the power to give form and function to the fears and desires sensed from the minds of others. Jamil was only a psychic constract she had created to keep her company, materializing one of her own desires for once. The various mental and shape-shifting powers of Jamil were actually Karima lending her powers to the construct and shaping ideas from the minds of Storm and Candra. Storm convinced Karima to end the charade while Candra was killed by Cyclops. Uncertain if Jamil can be recreated.
