Origin
In 1804, Joséphine married Napoleon Bonaparte, becoming his first wife. It was her second marriage; her first husband died under the guillotine. Her children from her first marriage became important in European history. Her son Eugène was the grandfather of later Swedish and Danish kings and queens. The reigning houses of Belgium, Norway and Luxembourg also descend from her. She was divorced from Napoleon in 1810, after she did not bear him any children.
