The Kilgore Monster

Laura Neff had come to Kilgore, a tiny island off the Scottish coastline, when she was young and had quickly fallen in love with it, as well as local fisherman, Sean Campbell. Fishing was Campbell’s livelihood, until the day that a monstrous creature began terrorizing the seas and devouring any and all fish in the area. Campbell became determined to slay this beast and bring peace to the waters of Kilgore. Before setting sail for his hunt, Campbell paid a visit to Mac Gregor‘s Tavern for a last drink and to bid goodbye to Laura who worked there. She was wary of Campbell’s hunt, both because she feared for his safety, and because of an old prediction she had once heard that stated: “The monster will bring misery each time it wakes but the village will be doomed if ever it be slain.” Campbell didn’t believe in this riddle though, and so he soon departed, promising Laura that he would marry her once he returned.

A happy ending for Laura & Sean.

With a veritable fleet of fellow fisherman by his side, Campbell sailed to the monster’s last known location. After a long and arduous hunt, Campbell readied his explosive harpoon and fired at the monster, scoring a direct hit. The beast flailed about wildly in its death throes, and in its final leap, Campbell saw Laura’s warning come true, as it turned out that the island of Kilgore had been built on the enormous monster’s back. With its death, the Kilgore Monster and the village of Kilgore sank into the depths of the sea, never to be seen again. Only a handful of villagers managed to survive the cataclysm, among them thankfully being Laura, who Campbell fished out of the water and happily embraced.

The island of Kilgore has since become so totally forgotten over the years that it was as if it never existed in the first place.
