 Leuwen Van Zandt and his family were the original owners of Manhattan Island. He was famous for the line “a Van Zandt prepares himself for any contingency.” He was a huge inspiration for his ancestor Raphael Van Zandt the Silver Ghost who wanted to retake Manhattan for his family.
