Overview
Lillian D. Wald was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in March 10, 1867. She was educated at Miss Cruttenden’s English-French Boarding and Day School for Young Ladies and New York Hospital’s School of Nursing after that. Subsequently she studied at Woman’s Medical College. Lillian an author, published two books, The House on Henry Street, and Windows on Henry Street based on her work as a public health nurse (a term she coined herself) aiding sick and poor sick residents, by actually choosing to live near their residents. More than just a nurse and author, Wald was also involved in community outreach programs, helping develop and foster basic life skills to many woman who were lacking, such skills and knowledge. She also helped found the Women’s Trade Union League and also the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. She also served as the President of the American Union Against Militarism. She also received a Lincoln Medallion.
