This character makes an appearance in one of those many dream sequences that made up the Superman comics of the Silver Age and was incorrectly credited in the DC encyclopedia as the first appearance of Neil Gaiman’s Lucifer Morningstar, a completely different character.
Originally, in his dream, Jimmy Olsen thought the man was merely an ancestor of Lex Luthor with supernatural powers who could return him to the present in exchange for his soul but when the devil comes to collect his due three hundred years later, his identity is revealed and the dramatic climax begins…only for Jimmy Olsen to wake up.
