In the time that Dream of the Endless was being held prisoner by the Order of Ancient Mysteries, Magpie was one of the few denizens of the Dreaming that remained faithful to her king. Magpie was convinced that the dream king had been captured and was lucky enough to stumble into the dream of one of Morpheus’ guards. She discerned his location, but everyone she tried to enlist to aid in her rescue attempt doubted her findings and elected to stay in the Dreaming and wait for their king’s return.
Magpie was determined to go on her mission anyway but, being a relatively young and inexperienced dream, was unable to manifest herself in the physical realm. Instead she occupied the body of a mortal woman that happened to be near Dream’s prison, and through magical interference became trapped in that body for the next 3 decades. She was eventually released from her mortal bonds by John Constantine and his allies, and returned to the Dreaming long after the king she had set out to rescue had already returned.
After returning home she assisted in the rebuilding of The House of Mystery.
