Nicol Bolas is the strongest of the Elder Dragons of the plane of Dominaria. As one of the Survivors of the Dragon War, he is also one of the few remaining Elder Dragons. Bolas has also ascended and become a Planeswalker, a being that has vast quantities of mana and can travel throughout the multiverse with few restrictions.
Bolas can control three different types of mana: Red, Blue and Black. Although the strength of his red mana has been largely unexplored, he has shown to be a formidable foe against many of the strongest opponents.
Bolas’ control over negation magic (symbolized by the color blue) has been shown to nullify even time magic of old planeswalkers like Teferi, and delve into the minds of several powerful telepaths, such as Jace Beleren. These powers give Bolas the ability to manipulate lesser minds with ease, allowing him to create vast power networks in his bid to control the multiverse.
Even though his negation and mental abilities are fearsome, Bolas’ most famous assault, the Elder Dragon’s touch, is by far the most devastating. With even the slightest caress, the dragon renders the subject incapable of coherent thought. This ability has been shown capable of reducing beings, even other planeswalkers, to mindless drones for Bolas to command.
Though he lost much of his old power in “The Mending”, Bolas has also managed regain huge stores of mana by consuming the Maelstrom, an event of cosmic proportions caused by the recreation of the plane of Alara.
