Major Story Arcs

To prove the next marriage date is for real, Roy takes Kay out to find their future home. They find one and head to his hotel to celebrate. A telegram arrives and notifies Roy that his father needs an operation immediately. He immediately flies home.

At home, Roy learns that his parents are stretched pretty thin. He gives them all his money and then flies back to Washington. He has to break the news to Kay that he needs to postpone their wedding again. He feels strongly that they need to start their marriage on a good foundation. Kay is unsure but trusts him.

Later, one of Kay’s friends gets married. Kay is mocked and Roy tries to calm her down. He is shocked when she breaks up with him then and there. He decides to leave her alone for a while to let her cool down. He sees her some time later at a table with Michael Dodd, a rich kid. He confronts her and accuses her of being a floozy just looking to get hitched. He watches the two leave.

Kay’s friend Ruth approaches Roy and tells him about her meddling. It was she who set Kay up on the date with Michael. She then tells Roy about Kay’s accident – Michael had gotten so mad that Kay refused to marry him that he drove them off a bridge. Roy rushes to the hospital and admits to why he is always postponing he and Kay’s wedding: his father was always angry that his mother pressured a fast marriage while the mother was always angry that his father wasn’t the best provider. He promises that he is over this fear and wants to get married right away, trusting that their love is all the security he needs.
