A fake oracle, Swami Salami is hired by Captain Epsom to trick someone into being a deckhand for his very poor excuse of a ship.

Major Story Arcs
Shortly after being hired by Captain Epsom, Swami Salami welcomes Charlie McCarthy into his tent to tell him his fortune. He takes money and then “divines” that a boat will be named after Charlie. That seems to be the extent of the reading, however, and Swami Salami gets Charlie’s contact information just in case something else pops up about the future.
The fake swami supplies Charlie’s information to Captain Epsom, who calls the boy and tells him that a ship will be named after him, but he must get down to the dock. (The ploy is that the captain will shanghai Charlie.) His work done, Swami Salami slinks off as Charlie and Mortimer Snerd approach.
