The Director inherited his uncle Hirsz’s (a head of an acclaimed movie studio) fortune and legacy when he died. Not happy with the way he was ordered around by his higher-ups, he formed his own organization so he would be able to order people around instead.Â

He had recently acquired the services of Carpenter, through the Broker. He revealed his plan, in which he hoped to kill Batman on camera, to her. While helping set up the scenario, Jenna discovered that she was also to be killed by The Director in order to test the set and to not have to deal with a witness.
