History
Yoshimitsu’s real name and origins are unknown, it’s even unknown if he’s Japanese. All that’s really known is that he loves video games and sumo wrestling, and hates sore losers and villains. He is the leader of the Manji clan, a band of ancient Robinhood-esque thieves that rob from the rich and corrupt and give to the poor. As the leader, he wields a mystical katana that’s also called “Yoshimitsu” (Good Fortune Light) which is passed from leader to leader.
When Heihachi Mishima, one of the wealthiest and most devious men in the world announced that he was holding the “Tekken” tournament, Yoshimitsu became intrigued… but had no interest in winning, he only wanted Heihachi’s wealth and devised a plan to enter his tournament as a distraction while the Manji clan stole the operating funds of the tournament. During the raid, Yoshimitsu loses his right forearm and hand, but was found by a scientist, Dr. Boskonovitch, whom replaces it with a cybernetic prosthetic and helps him escape. Afterwards, Yoshimitsu forced a fellow Manji clan member, Kunimitsu, to leave the clan after she was caught stealing for herself.
Yoshimitsu enters the second Tekken tournament when he finds out that Dr. Boskonovitch was being held against his will and forced to work for Heihachi’s company, now owned by his son, Kazuya Mishima. He succeeds in rescuing Dr. Boskonovitch, and also has to defeat Kunimitsu whom wanted to take Yoshimitsu’s prized sword.
20 years later, Dr. Boskonovitch’s daughter has died and was cryogenically frozen until Dr. Boskonovitch found a way to resuscitate her, with Yoshimitsu helping to raise research funds. When Yoshimitsu learns that Dr. Boskonovitch has a rare blood disease, Yoshimitsu enters the 3rd Tekken tournament to obtain blood from Ogre, a super-natural being that Dr. Boskonovitch hopes to make a cure from his blood, in which Yoshimitsu succeeds.
Yoshimitsu dedicated himself to providing food, medicine, and shelter to an increasing number of poor and needy, but Yoshimitsu and the Manji clan were struggling to do this. Yoshimitsu went to the 4th Tekken tournament to try and strike a deal with Heihachi Mishima to get financial support. Yoshimitsu was able to meet with Heihachi, but the elderly old scrooge was just as uninterested as Yoshimitsu imagined, and it was revealed that his Manji clan had once again robbed Heihachi during their argument. During the raid, Yoshimitsu discovered the cyborg Bryan Fury, created and subsequently abandoned by Dr. Abel, that needed his help and so he brought Bryan Fury to Dr. Boskonovitch.
Yoshimitsu recieves an urgent message from Dr. Boskonovitch and rushes to his lab where he finds that Bryan Fury rewarded their kindness with destruction and nearly kills Dr. Boskonovitch, as well as killing several Manji clan members. Yoshimitsu makes it his personal mission to hunt down down Bryan Fury and punish him.
While hunting down Bryan Fury, Yoshimitsu noticed that his sword is weakening. His sword is cursed and without killing wicked people, it’s effects turn on Yoshimitsu himself and will drive him insane, so Yoshimitsu obtained a second sword that would counter it’s effects.
