Zarla, the daughter of two great dragons hunters, goes looking for them when they vanish while returning from their latest victory.  

Ready to take on any challenge to prove herself worthy of them, through she finds out this is anything but easy due to the monsters, sorcerers and roughnecks she has to face to do this, plus the laughs that ensue when she rides in on her mount, her bulldog Mead.  

Unknown to Zarla there is more to Mead than she knows, really an intelligent shape-shifting dragon dog warrior called Hydromel he is bound in unwavering loyalty to her because of an amulet she wears, who takes down the fearsome opponents without her knowing.
