Zither

Zither is in charge of the international company ZitherTech. After her husband got the power of a Firestorm from a rogue protocol, he went insane, burned over half of Zithers body, and accidentally killed their kids and the majority of the near-by town. Since then, she locked up her insane husband deep below ZitherTech. Zither learned about Martin Stein creating Firestorm Protocols. She sends numerous teams of her agents to locations where Firestorm Protocols are rumored to have been sent by Stein. After one of her groups fails, she sends them to the high school of Jason Rusch, one of Stein’s gifted young followers, who possesses one of the magnetic tubes containing the Protocols. Rusch activates the Protocols to save the lives of himself and his classmates and unintentionally exposes Ronnie Raymond to the Protocol as well, transforming them both into two halves of a complete Firestorm (they later fuse together to form the monstrous Fury).

She then sends another team of agents, the drug-enhanced soldiers known as Hyena Squad, to eliminate Ronnie and Jason, but they fail as well. Changing tactics, Candace orders her men to round up Ronnie’s mother and Jason’s father, and offer them jobs and a place to live in her corporate living community. Zither sets up a trap for the Firestorms using one of her ops teams, and then kills the entire team to gain the trust of Ronnie and Jason, who reluctantly agree to work for her.

Zither sends Jason and Ronnie to eliminate a rogue firestorm who plans on committing an act of terrorism on U.S. soil. They fail to stop him from blowing up a concert venue and killing two thousand people. And to make things worse, the media gets them on tape and portrays Jason as the perpetrator of the attack. This PR nightmare marks the beginning of the end for Zithertech, made even more damning when she loses control of Ronnie Raymond entirely, who goes off on his own to hunt down the rogue firestorms led by Ashra Khan.

Candace begins using a backdoor trigger built into the Firestorm Protocols to eliminate the international firestorms created by her company. She kills the British firestorm called Hurricane and the Indian firestorm Raksashi in this way. Zither attempts to flee her corporate headquarters as the United States government, which has revoked her contracts and is prepared to issue subpoenas that would be the end of her company, closes in on her. However, she meets her end when she finds herself face to face with the French firestorm, Firehawk, who is reaching critical mass and is determined to take Zither with her.
