Beverly Chin was brutally attacked by a vampire at one point in her life. He killed everyone in her family, but she escaped with the help of vampire slayer, Anita Blake, who was sent to the home to legally execute him. Anita told the police that she killed the vampire, but really it was Beverly who struck the fatal blow to his head. She was so afraid that people would think she was a horrible person for being capable of committing such a horrible thing that she told Anita she never wanted anyone to find out what happened.
She later joined the group Humans Against Vampires (HAV). When Anita was investigating a vampire murder case, she asked Bev for any information she might have about members of HAV that could have anything to do with the murders.
