Black Annis, also know as Gwrach-y-Rhibyn, was once a beautiful, noble woman called Severa in the Early Middle Ages. She is the daughter of Magnus Maximus and the stepdaughter of Amber Tremayne. She became jealous of her stepbrother Aurelio Ambrosio and of Amber’s powers. Studying an old, pre-human science, stealing Amber’s books and getting lessons from Druids and other sages, she acquired great mental powers. Severa tried to kill Aurelio using a portal which led to the dark kingdom of Annwn, and his monstrous inhabitants, the Tylwyth Tegs. Amber came to save her son, and Severa fled through the portal. The mysterious radiations of Annw made her like the inhabitants of Annwn, but with their aspect she also got their longevity, and with her powers she became queen of that world, swearing revenge against Amber.
