Origin
Buddy Ebsen was a famous dancer of the 1930s. He was set to play the Tinman in the Wizard of Oz but the makeup caused allergic reaction forcing him to drop out. He later became famous for his role as Jed Clampett on the Beverly Hillbillies. He also played the role of private detective Barnaby Jones for many seasons on the CBS Network.
