Thousand Year Blood-War
Cang first appears during the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc during the Vandenreich’s invasion of Soul Society. He confronts 10th Division Captain Toshiro Hitsugaya in battle. When Hitsugaya activates his Bankai, Daiguren Hyorinmaru, Cang steals it using a medallion-like device and then activates it for himself. However, this is rendered useless when Captain-Commander Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto activates his own Bankai, Zanka no Tachi, elsewhere in Soul Society, absorbing all water and ice from the surrounding area and dissolving Daiguren Hyorinmaru. Cang later returns to the Vandenreich’s base of operations, leaving his battle against Hitsugaya a draw.
Cang is present when the Vandenreich Emperor, Yhwach, announces Uryu Ishida as his successor. He is shocked by the announcement, but declines to discuss the matter with his fellow Stern Ritter.
He arrives during Bazz B’s battle with Hitsugaya. Cang Du takes over the battle and drops a unconscious Rangiku Matsumoto. Cang Du decides to activate Hitsugaya’s bankai and makes a positive compliment about it. Soon Urahara’s pill takes effect and Daiguren Hyōrinmaru suddenly snaps off in a splatter of blood. Hitsugaya proceeds to defeat Cang Du by encasing him in ice. He later breaks out of it by activating Volstandig.
Later, Cang Du and BG9 are tied up and Haschwalth steps forward to excecute them. Haschwalth slashes at Cang who uses “The Iron” to block the attack successfully much to Haschwalth’s suprise. However, Haschwalth activates “The Balance” and executes Cang Du.
