Origin
Born Kurt Snurr, Airtight was a troublesome kid raised in New Haven, Connecticut. As such, he enjoyed the rush of entering a danger zone and had no problem tackling toxic gases and poisons. Also, he enjoys his practical jokes, which are mainly tolerated due to his aptitude in the field. He is also an astute ordnance user.
Creation
Airtight was introduced as a toy in 1985 and was introduced in comics a year later by artist Mike Zeck and writer Larry Hama.
Character Evolution
Airtight is a CBR (Chemical, Biological, Radiological) Warfare specialist and also holds a secondary specialty in ordnance. He holds the rank of corporal E-4.

Airtight appeared in several episodes of Sunbow’s 1985 G.I. Joe television series. He also starred in one of the PSA’s that appeared after the show.

Airtight also appeared in the G.I. Joe: Renegades series as Dr. Kurt Schnurr. In the 2010 series, he is a scientist working for Cobra Industries. Schnurr became a bio-chemist to fight diseases in developing countries, and he believed Cobra personnel when they assured him they would support his goal. But he discovers that Cobra has darker plans for his research, and that even his lab partner, Dr. Monev, is not who he pretends to be.

Toys

Airtight was released in 1985 as a part of the Hasbro G.I. Joe toy line. He was again released in 2008 as a part of the G.I. Joe 25th anniversary toy line.
