Connie Kurridge, the star of the comic strip Connie which started on May 13, 1927, she was a blonde, but she wasn’t a dumb one.
Resourceful, smart and gutsy, Connie started out as a flying flapper who after making a single handed trans-American flight by herself proceeded to fall into a series of adventures as a pilot, explorer, detective, and several others occupations, including forays into outer space.
All but forgotten today Connie Kurridge was the first action adventure heroine, as well as being one of the first comic strips to use a more realistic style of art as opposed to the cartoonish style used by most other comic strips at the time.
As with most of the newspaper characters of the time many of her adventures were reprinted in various early comic books such as Famous Funnies.
