King Gregory the First was created by Scott McCloud for the first color volume of Zot!, in issue 8.
Major Story Arcs
King Gregory is the first king of the planet Sirius IV. He lives three thousand years before the time of Zot. He is the king who first unites all of Sirius together in peace.
By Zot’s time, most people don’t remember him anymore. The conspiracists who wants to take over the planet have destroyed much of the information about him.
Once Gregory died, his spirit was transported by the embodiment of the planet, who is also known as Sirius IV, to the future, where it was bonded to an artificial body. There he lives in contentment with other heroes of the planet whose spirits have also been brought there in the same way. This land can be reached by going through the Doorway at the Edge of the Universe.
Zot and Jenny go through the door and meet Gregory, who explains the situation to them and introduces Zot to the spirit/robots of his mom and dad, who died serving Sirius. Zot also meets the spirit of Sirius. Gregory seems to be the only one who knows about her.
He helps Jenny and Zot return to their own time where he says they will be responsible for many of the positive characteristics of the future.
