Louise Bernstein was created by Scott McCloud for the second, black-and-white, run of Zot! in issue 34.
Major Story Arcs
Louise’s husband is Jacob and her son is Woody. When she was young, she was going out with the captain of the football team, but she ended up dropping him for Jacob, who seemed to truly love and respect her and her opinions. Jacob grows up to become a diplomat who is known for standing up for what is right.
Woody becomes involved with Jenny Weaver, a girl at his school. Through her, he also becomes friends (and a romantic competitor) with Zot, a hero from another dimension.
Louise, Woody, and Jacob live in a suburb between Boston and New York City. They move to Paris for a while for Jacob’s work. They eventually come back and resume their lives in the same suburb. Woody grows a lot during that time.
Louise has a good relationship with Woody. He feels like he is able to talk with her about his feelings and romantic life. When he is unsure about whether he should keep waiting for Jenny to make a decision about whether she wants to be with him or Zot, she says it’s time for him to move on and respect his own needs.
