Aeetes was reportedly a son of Helius, the Sun God and Perseis the Oceanid. He was a sibling to (among others) Circe and Pasiphae. He became King of Colchis in area in what is currently the country of Georgia. Â

The Argonauts sailed to his kingdom in an attempt to gain the Golden Fleece. They left with both the Fleece and his young daughter Medea.Â
