Origin

Hendrik lived in Rotterdam (Holland) as a young boy near his favourite soccer team Feyenoord. When Hendrik Ijzerbroot was in college the second world war breaks out and he’s forced to hide at his uncle’s place. Here he comes into contact the Dutch resistance and from there on the story takes leap to his current status of Dutch secret agent 327. 

Creation

The cartoon first appeared in the magazine Pep in 1966. Here it was drawn by Jan Kruis who also came up with the characters name. Hendrik from the Dutch political figure Hendrik Koekoek and IJzerbroot as a parody on the name of the Dutch resistance fighter Bernardus IJzerdraat. The comic book started of as a parody on James Bond. Martin Lodewijk took over as writer and artist.Â
