Agent America

Concept and Creation

It is clearly obvious that Agent America’s appearance was a “plagiarized” attempt to recreate Marvel Comics’ Captain America. Despite having a brief appearance in a sample booklet, Agent America never fully materialized as both a genuine comic book character and series after Rob Liefeld was given a cease and desist from Marvel. This forced Liefeld to replace Agent America with The Fighting American, an obscured patriotic-themed superhero created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon in the mid-1950s.

Between 2004 and 2008, Rob Liefeld redesigned his Agent America character concept into a new character called Free Agent. There have been two incarnations of the character: The first Free Agent was Caucasian in the pages of Youngblood: Imperial at Arcadia Comics. The second Free Agent was African-American in in the pages of the 2008 Youngblood comic book series at Image Comics. The second Free Agent was revealed to be formerly known as Diehard.
