Alf Tupper is an 18 year old working class young man who has worked as a welder, day laborer and plumber, who apparently lived off fish & chips, but whose passion is running.
His efforts on the track however are usually hampered by a succession of posh upper class twits who resent having a common “guttersnipe” on their tracks, and ready to do anything, mostly cheating, to show him just how worthless he is.
Of course for over 50 years in The Rover and later The Victor, Alf not only showed them who was the better runner, but the better person as he was often late for track meets due to him stopping and helping people in need.
