Ali is very innocent to the world of violence, cruelty, adult life, and war that surrounds him. He is confused when the ideas of war, survival, sex, and humanity are thrown at him and his family.
He views the Prides escape from the Baghdad zoo as a simple adventure. But he soon realises how terrible  Real life is when you have live it for yourself, in the very worst way.
