In the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Quartermain is found in a opium den in Africa. His life seeming over until Wilhelmina finds him and gets him to join her in order to save England and perhaps the world. His life comes together somewhat but his addiction is a liability. They eventually meet Captain Nemo and set out to find Edward Hyde and Hawley Griffin. The Leagues first adventure pits them against Professor Moriarty. A few years later, Earth is invaded by Martians and their tripod death machines. Quatermain and The League manage to stop the invaders by releasing Dr Moreau’s virus but not before the Martians have killed 100,000’s and devastated London.

It was after these events when Quatermain and Mina Harker bathed in the Fire of Life and became immortal. He masqueraded as his own son and took on the name of Allan Quatermain Jr to hide the fire’s mystical rejuvenation.
