Ambrose Chase was brought into the *Planetary* organization very young. His father had been a subject in the Science City Zero project – a secret American concentration camp run by Randall Dowling. The city used “undesirables” from American society – Socialists, anti-war activists, homosexuals and the like – and subjected them to extreme experiments in order to discover the causes of, and limits of, metahuman abilities.

When Snow was forced to leave Planetary, Ambrose worked with Jakita Wagner and The Drummer to run the field team in its fight against The Four. It was during one of these missions that Ambrose was killed. Upon his death, however, his body disappeared, leading Elijah Snow to believe that Ambrose isn’t truly dead and may yet be recovered. Ambrose is survived by a wife and daughter, whose needs are taken care of by Planetary. Chase’s daughter does not yet show signs of any metahuman abilities, but there is no doubt she is being watched for them.

Creation

Ambrose Chase was created by writer Warren Ellis and artist John Cassaday for the “Planetary” comic series, which was published by WildStorm Productions and later DC Comics. The series debuted in 1999 and ran for 27 issues. Ambrose Chase was one of the unique characters introduced in the series, each of whom possessed special abilities and contributed to the exploration of hidden phenomena.

Powers and Abilities

Ambrose was born with the ability to manipulate the very laws of physics. He can change the direction of gravity, selectively alter angular momentum, and slow down time. Under the tutelage of Elijah Snow and Planetary, Ambrose was able to use his powers very precisely and efficiently.
