Andre the Giant was born on May 19, 1946, in Grenoble, France. His extraordinary size and strength were due to a condition called acromegaly, which results from the overproduction of growth hormone. This condition caused him to continue growing throughout his life and led to his impressive stature.
Andre’s most prominent film role was as Fezzik in the popular 1987 film, “The Princess Bride“.
