After the divorce of his parents, a young Arthur developed a syndrome called zoanthropy. Thinking he was a dog, he accompanied his brother Lambik on his quests to become a detective. When Lambik and Arthur heard that their mother had died in a plane crash, Arthur started to think he was a bird. When Lambik asked why, Arthur said that he wished he had become a bird sooner, so that he could save his mother when her plane fell down from the sky.

Arthur and Lambik retrieved their father from the mental institution he was in and together they went to Africa. Lambik quickly returned to Belgium, but Arthur and his father stayed in Africa. There, Arthur went out to find a rare plant, whose sap is said to make everyone who drinks it fly for a period of time. His local guide succumbed during the exploration. Arthur swore to adopt his daughter. Arriving in the village of his guide, another tribe had kidnapped the girl. He swore to find her and the plant he was looking for. When he found the plant, he wrote to his brother Lambik, who then heard nothing more from his brother for 15 years.

A newspaper crew photographed Arthur in the African country called Dongo. Reading the newspaper, Lambik recognized his brother and went searching for him, together with Suske and Wiske. Finally finding Arthur, they drove off Serpentor, who wanted the secret of the plant for himself, and discovered that Banana, the queen of the Jambabas, was Arthur’s long lost adopted daughter.
