Arthur was gunned down in front of his entire school’s assembly by a classmate who had been indoctrinated into the U-Men’s philosophy and therefore believed that mutant abilities were for stealing. His classmate proceeded to cut out Arthur’s eyes, stating that he could use them by grafting them to himself. He explained to the school assembly that Arthur was a closet mutant (and also a closet homosexual) and that he believed he deserved Arthur’s abilities more.
The classmate was killed by a police sniper and the event prompted the X-Men to investigate and close down the U-Men operation.
