Asguiaro Ebern (???????????, Azugiaro ?b?n) is an antagonist of the BLEACH series that was created by Tite Kubo, It first began serialization Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in August 2001. He was first introduced during the the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc that began in Volume 55.
He first appeared in BLEACH Volume 55 CH. 480 “The Blood Warfare“.
Character Evolution
Major Story Arcs
Ebern first appears during the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc, arriving unexpectedly before Ichigo Kurosaki, and his friends by climbing into Ichigo’s bedroom window. After introducing himself, Ichigo demands that he leave; when Ebern doesn’t comply, Ichigo kicks at him and chases him into the airspace above the neighborhood. Ebern reveals his Quincy cross to Ichigo and uses it to create a cannon-like weapon out of thin air, an ability not typically displayed by Arrancar, which throws Ichigo off-guard. A battle ensues, during which Ebern constantly taunts Ichigo by suggesting he use his Bankai. When Ichigo does activate his Bankai, Ebern immediately attempts to steal it by using a medallion-like device, but Ichigo breaks free of the device’s restraints and hits Ebern with his Getsuga Tensh? technique. Injured, Ebern is stunned that his medallion failed. Ichigo threatens to take Ebern to be interrogated, but Ebern quickly slips away into a shadow-like portal and disappears entirely.
Ebern arrives at Vandenreich headquarters, where he has a spat with his fellow Arrancar Luders Friegen before the Vandenreich Emperor Yhwach destroys Luders’ arm for his rowdiness, prompting Ebern to fall silent in turn. After Ebern witnesses Yhwach kill Luders for being insubordinate, he receives praise from Yhwach for doing his job correctly. However, moments later Yhwach tells Ebern that his role is over and kills him by tearing his body apart with a wave of his hand.
Powers & Abilities
Spirit Weapon – Ebern is capable of creating a weapon out of spiritual energy using his Quincy cross. Ebern’s weapon resembles a series of small cannons attached to a curved base that fire bursts of energy.
Weaknesses
Mask Fragments – As an Arrancar, removing the entirety of Ebern’s mask from his face will kill him instantly.
