Creation
The character was first mentioned in Black Panther #1 (1976), written and illustrated by Jack Kirby, his name was Azzari the Wise, however, he only made one appearance in Fantastic Four Unlimited (1993), written by Roy Thomas. In that story, his name is said to be Chanda. He was later used by Reginald Hudlin in Black Panther (2005-2008) and Black Panther/Captain America: Flags of Our Fathers (2010), this time his name is spelled Azzuri. Another spelling used is Azzaria, which also came with a city named after him: Birnin Azzaria. Wakanda #5 (2023) establishes that his name is T’Chanda or Chanda and that Azzuri the Wise is his regal name.
