Babar

Origin

Babar was a young elephant who escaped the hunters who killed his mother, and fled into a human city, where a kindly woman took him in, clothed him, and enrolled him in school. After learning humanity’s ways, he returned home to teach his fellow elephants how to be civilized, soon becoming their king.

Creation

Babar was created by French writer Jean de Brunhoff and debuted in the 1931 volume Histoire de Babar, subsequently translated into English in 1933 as The Story of Babar.
