Banylon was an Egyptian princess with a beautiful voice. When a sphinx once heard her sing, she ordered her father Tutankoffi to leave Banylon with her so Banylon could sing to her forever. Not wanting to do that Tutankoffi threatened the sphinx. Angered, the sphinx transformed Banylon into a singing hippopotamus, telling Tutankoffi that the spell could only be broken if Tutankoffi could bring the sphinx another singing hippopotamus. Tutankoffi promised to marry his daughter to the man who could undo the spell. Both the handsome prince Tip-Entop and his evil nephew prince La-Meling tried to find a solution. Suske and Wiske helped prince Tip-Entop fight his nephew. The spell was broken when Sidonia put a grammophone into another hippopotamus.

Months later, Banylon rescued Suske and Wiske from a crazed La-Meling who had part of a description of a secret formula. They got it the description from him when Wiske promised to give La-Meling Suske’s toy train to play with.
