Origin
Bareil is a Vedek (religious leader) on Bajor. A Vedek is a position in the religions hierarchy. He would move up in popularity among the Bajorian people and had to stop his career in order to save the reputation of another religions leader during the Cardassian Occupation. He would also build up a romance with Kira Nerys. This ended with his death due to brain damage.

Bareil was created for the television show Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
