Like most contemporary Inuit, Barnabas is an amalgamation of the past and present. While his grandfather was an angakok, a medicine man right out of the Nanook of the North, his dad was a highly respected geologist. Although Barnabas’s father recently died under strange circumstances, in which his son was possibly involved. While he may seem perfectly harmless, there’s something not quite right about this Eskimo. According to newspaper reports, Barnabas was severely burned while serving as a fire-fighting smokejumper in the woods of Northern Alaska, an incident that his colleagues say has left him eerily obsessed with fire. After the fishing vessel Kelly capsized, Barnabas found Tefe washed up on the shoreline near his cabin. he then personally nursed her back to health, athough the Elemental would have done just fine without him. Barnabas now follows her around like a puppy dog, the exact nature of their relationship is not determined, but it seems clear that he adores, and possibly even worships Tefe.
