Origin
Mr. Lord was a terrorist onboard Arnus’s ship two hundred years ago who made Arnus’s ship explode, stranding him on Earth. Mr. Lord ultimately escaped and has been living on Earth ever since, sometimes working for the United States government.
Creation
Benedict Lord or Mr. Lord made his debut in Icon and Rocket #1 and was created by Doug Braithwaite, Leon Chills, and Reginald Hudlin.
Major Story Arcs
In Space
Mr. Lord infiltrated Arnus’s ship two hundred years ago and planted bombs in hopes of blowing up all of the ship’s passengers. He was discovered by Arnus and they fought. Ultimately, Lord was able to escape by spitting acid in Arnus’s face. The acid burned through Arnus’s face and Lord escaped the ship while Arnus’s face regenerated.
On Earth Throughout History
Mr. Lord has lived on Earth ever since, often using his abilities in service of the U.S. government. Seeing that Arnus, now known as Augustus Freeman, was upsetting the southern power balance as he attempted to end slavery, the Confederate government sent Mr. Lord after him. Lord ended up impaling Augustus, leaving Augustus in a comatose state for decades.
At some point, a version of Clark Kent rocketed down to the cornfields of Kansas. The U.S. government, scared of what this alien visitor may do, sent Lord to strangle the infant as he slept.
In the Current Day
Mr. Lord sets his sights on Mrs. Ervin, Rocket’s mother. Soon after he begins his attack, he is intercepted by Xiomara Collins. Unfortunately, Lord is able to incapacitate Collins relatively quickly. As Lord has Mrs. Ervin in the air by her throat, he is hit by a blast of Icon’s heat vision, making him drop her. Icon’s arrival wakes Xiomara, allowing her to decapitate Lord, grab Mrs. Ervins, and jump through a damaged wall to safety.
After regenerating, Lord continues his fight with Icon. After a bit, Rocket joins the fight. Eventually, Lord escapes to safety yet again.
Powers and Abilities
Mr. Lord has some level of super strength and durability. In addition to this, he has a regenerative healing factor, shapeshifting, acid spit, and claws that can tear through the most durable materials.
