In Brian Michael Bendis’ Fire, he writes the life of Ben, in which this story is loosely based on events in the American intelligence community during the Regan administration.  There is friction between the “tech geeks” and the actual spies, where the tech geeks seem to be pushing out the need for human spies. Ben is a new breed of spy. A spy from nothing, no ties to family, friends or even a real history. Agent D.D. recruits Ben. Ben later finds out all agents are “expendable” and he plans to take down the agency.
