Bertie Bumpkin

Origin

Bertie Bumpkin was a dim-witted but amiable farmer with a thick Mummerset accent. He enjoyed an ongoing series of escapades, often annoying those around him with his stupidity, but generally came out on top in such situations through dumb luck.

Creation

Bertie Bumpkin was created by Terry Bave and debuted in the first issue of Jet. He survived that short lived title’s cancellation and merger into Buster on 2nd October 1971, where his strip continued for another seven months, finally ending with the issue cover dated 6th May 1972.

Despite the similar appearance, personality and “surname”, there’s no known relationship between Bertie and the Bumpkin Billionaires.
