Origin
Black Swan, originally Yabbot Ummon Tarru, was born a princess on an alternate earth. When her earth experienced an Universal Incursion the Black Priest massacred everyone leaving her the lone survivor. The Black Swans discovered Yabbat and raised her to become one of them and to serve Rabum Alal, the “Great Destroyer.”
Creation
Black Swan was created by New Avengers writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Steve Epting. She first appeared in the third volume of New Avengers #1 released in 2013.
Character Evolution
Black Swan first appears as a supporting character in the New Avengers story Memento Mori. Introduced with mysterious motivations, the character’s history is slowly revealed during the arc.
Major Story Arcs
New Avengers
Black Swan came to Earth-616 in order to destroy it so that other earths may survive. She is stopped by Black Panther, and he assembles the Illuminati so that they may save their world. Holding Black Swan in a cell, they agree to let her out so that she can tell them what they need to do to save the world.
The Cabal

When the Illuminati fell apart after being forced to destroy another inhabited Earth. Namor freed her, Thanos and Terrax inorder to reform The Cabal, who would aid him in destroying worlds.
Powers and Abilities
Black Swan posses an array of undefined powers.
- Flight: Can fly and carry others within her force field.
- Force Field: Black Swan can create force fields around herself and other individuals.
- Optic Blast: Black Swan possesses the ability to fire energy blasts from her eyes.
- Super-strength: It is known that she possesses a degree of super strength, allowed her to lift objects over twenty tons.
- Telepathy: Black Swan has shown the ability to probe the minds of others and communicate telepathically. The limits of her telepathy are unknown.
Abilities
Black Swan possesses the ability to speak in multiple languages, including some of Earth’s oldest dialects. She also displayed significant knowledge on the inner workings of the multiverse.
She has access to incredible technology including a device in her eyes allowing her to detect an incoming reality Incursion before it happens.
