Blythe

Blythe is an artificial intelligence, whose holographic appearance is that of a stereotypical French maid. She acts as a virtual secretary for her owner, Emma Grosvenor, screening phone calls, taking messages, as well as arranging and keeping track of appointments, finances and other details. As Emma spends more and more time in a trance-like fugue, Blythe takes on more responsibilities for holding her owner’s life together and begins to record Emma’s trance-induced ramblings. As Lynne points out, Blythe’s power and importance are greatly reduced after the family moves, as her program is far less integrated into their new home in the Grass House. When it becomes clear that Emma cannot afford the Grass House’s upkeep, Blythe suggests that the Pastwatch Institute might be willing to pay for access to the historical fragments mysteriously embedded in her subconscious.
