Bobby Zirrozinski is a war veteran who lost his right eye and his lower-left arm in an undisclosed conflict prior to the beginning of Cyborg Volume 1. He is first seen among fellow protesters who are currently lobbying for the right for cybernetic enhancements for everyone who needs them, and not just those privileged enough to get them. It is here that it is made know of Zirrozinski’s hatred and resentment toward Victor Stone, known to him as the hero Cyborg, because he’s able to have all his cybernetic enhancements seemingly without scrutiny, compared to the common man, like himself, who remain unacknowledged.
At this point in his life, Zirrozinski’s appearance is akin to that of a street bum, implying that the incident that caused his double injuries was some time off in the past.
Not content to wait for change or acknowledgement in his protests, Bobby Zirrozinski chooses to take matters into his own hands. He cleans himself up, revealing himself to have still remained in good army shape in spite of having let his appearance go, as well as revealing how young he actually is, before enlisting the services of a backdoor cybernetics work shop to replace his missing eye and arm with cybernetic augmentation.
