Bomber Burns

Origin

American exhibition stunt pilots Jack “Bomber” Burns and Dave Matten, having finished a performance in Newfoundland, are returning to England when they are shot down by Nazi when Dave dies in the crash Burns swears vengeance.

stealing a Lockheed airplane he outfits it with special weaponry (incendiary bullets, a flame-thrower and a cannon) while also painting it bright red and christening it The Firebrand. His last trick is to make hundreds of calling cards printed on special paper so they will burst into flames shortly after drifting to the ground, he then starts waging a one man war against the Luftwaffe.

Not to be confused with either of the other two Firebrands that appeared in the Golden-Age at Quality and DC, also while some sites list Bomber Burns as first appearing in Detective Comics # 27, (!!!) the character really appeared only in the four issues of Victory Comics from Hillman.
