When he fought against Superboy he changed his look from a tree, to electricity, to a lizard. While he touched a car to change into “Auto-Mech”, Superboy didn’t let him finish his transmutation and threw him into the ocean, where he became liquid and got torn apart by the currents, which let him unable to re-form. Superboy wanted to help him to get back to the shore, but it was to late.
