Creation
The name Cacodemon, which comes from the Greek κακοδαίμÏν (kakodaimon) means “evil spirit” and is a more precise name for what is generally know as demon. In ancient Greek, “demon” or “dæmon” simply meant “spirit” and was neutral. “Daemon” still has neutral uses to this day.
The general design of the Cacodemon is similar to that of the Beholder, a similarly one-eyed classic Dungeons & Dragons monster. In addition, the Cacodemon was created from a cropping of a creature that appears on the cover of Manual of the Planes, a Dungeons & Dragons expansion book. The creature itself is known as an Astral Dreadnought, and was created by Jeff Easley for that book.
Overview
Doom
Cacodemons are large spherical monsters whose body is basically a head crowned with horns, possess a single eye, and a great big gaping mouth brimming with viciously sharp teeth.
The Doom II manual describes the Cacodemons as “They float in the air, belch ball-lightning, and boast one Hell of a big mouth. You’re toast if you get too close to these monstrosities.”
Doom 3

The Cacodemons in Doom 3 appear quite different from their classic versions, but behave much the same. Doom 3 Cacodemons have more than one eye, an even bigger mouth, dangling tentacles that hang below it, and a strangely exposed brain on the top of its head. They can fly slightly faster than before, but otherwise follow the same attack methods of spitting energy projectiles and biting anyone that gets too close.
Powers & Abilities

Cacodemons fly through the air and attack by either spitting balls of plasma or biting anyone that gets too close to them. They’re known to attack in small groups.
