Calizuma

Origin

Calizuma would encounter the Defenders during their search for the Silver Surfer. Doctor Strange, the Hulk and Namor travel to a hidden Himalayan valley where traces of the Undying Ones were previously encountered by a friend named Kenneth Ward. The three Defenders find the valley of the Undying Ones and are approached by a group of large, human apes. The Hulk attacks the sasquatch creatures until the Silver Surfer appears. The Surfer tells the Defenders that these creatures are harmless and made friends with them when he arrived months earlier. 
 

Suddenly the creatures reveal their true identities as Calizuma and his Wizard Warriors. They altered their appearance as man-apes so they could learn more about the natives and the Silver Surfer. The Silver Surfer believed he was teaching these friendly creatures but in actuality, Calizuma and his warriors were subtly penetrating and controlling his mind so he would unknowingly do their bidding. Doctor Strange battles Calizuma while the rest of the Defenders dispatch his Wizard Warriors. The two sorcerers are in a standstill until Doctor Strange orders the rest of his teammates to combine their forces against Calizuma. All four Defenders strike at the same time and the combined forces of magic, brutal strength and the power cosmic causes Calizuma to collapse. The rest of Calizuma’s followers are easily defeated and Doctor Strange places a spell of atonement upon them.    

Creation

Calizuma was created by Steve Englehart and Sal Buscema in 1972 and first appeared in The Defenders # 2.

Powers & Abilities

Calizuma is a sorcerer that can project illusions and fire mystical bolts from his hands. His Wizard Warriors appear to have a degree of superhuman strength and can also fire mystical bolts from their hands.
