Captain China

The only surviving member of a project during Mao Zedong’s “Great Leap Forward” campaign to create China’s own superhumans (in response to those already present throughout the rest of the world) Li Feng was meant to be a symbol of China’s pride in the late 50’s-early 60’s. Dubbed the ‘Liberator’ originally, he became the centerpiece for a propaganda program to demonstrate China’s capabilities to the rest of the world.

Unfortunately, fatal side effects of this project began to manifest themselves in those who had participated in the experiment. Many of the subjects began to physically deteriorate and/or die as a result. Li-Feng was spared this grisly fate by being put into a cryogenic sleep that halted the deterioration process until a cure could be found.

Nearly half a century went by until such an answer could be found. Li-Feng is revived from his slumber to become his nation’s national symbol once again. But he’s awoken to a new China that is not the one he remembers. A China that is trying to embrace a more Capitalist world. Now dubbed ‘Captain China’ by a PR drive and marketing strategy, his strict Maoist mindset clashes with what his handlers and higher-ups expect from him.

Despite these tensions, he still strives to represent his country regardless of it’s changes.
