Joe Darkie appears in the classic 45-part series – Darkie’s Mob, written by John Wagner and illustrated by Mike Western.
It was first published in Battle Picture Weekly (14 August 1976 – 18 June 1977) and later reprinted in the Judge Dredd Megazine 202-210 (2003).
The story of Darkie’s Mob is told through the diaries of Private Shortland, ‘a small bloodstained notebook found at the scene of a brutal jungle battle’ in 1946. Darkie appears out of the jungle, pulling together twenty men without a leder and turning them into a fighting squad, behind Japanese lines in Burma.
